Can’t get it all done? Neither can I. A friend sent this to me recently and I wanted to share a whisper from God to you and to me:
Trust Me enough to spend ample time with Me, pushing back the demands of the day. Refuse to feel guilty about something that is so pleasing to Me, the King of the universe. Because I am omnipotent, I am able to bend time and events in your favor. You will find that you can accomplish more in less time, after you have given yourself to Me in rich communion. Also, as you align yourself with My perspective, you can sort out what is important and what is not.
Don’t fall into the trap of being constantly on the go. Many, many things people do in My Name have no value in My kingdom. To avoid doing meaningless works, stay in continual communication with Me. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”
Jesus Calling: Seeking Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young
This is a great quick and easy daily prayer book for those of us on the go. It always seems to speak about what I need to hear.
I *love* this, and I am curious to read the book, but I will say, I am working on my prayer life, and I am completing my RCIA journey, so I am just beginning to pray the rosary. When, at the beginning of the year, my husband and son started getting up at 5:00 am, I decided that I could get up at 5:30 to pray every morning. Before that, and even since, I held closely to a thought similar to the above , that I would get the time back elsewhere. What I found, though, also, once I got started, was, yes, the time I have devoted (not only during the half an hour I was usually asleep) is not missed in my day, and my ability to prioritize and get things done is increased, but also, I have sensed a call to be more disciplined and work harder. I have been heartened by the quote: “the world promises you comfort, but you were not made for comfort; you are made for greatness.” Pope Benedict XVI
Thank you so much for sharing that, I need these types of reminders a lot! And I love that Pope Benedict quote!!! 🙂

I should note that my son and husband aren’t just getting up at 5:00 am, they are getting up and going to the GYM at 5:00 AM. So, quiet house to myself, and if they could go work out that early, surely I could get up soon after and pray, right? 😉
My hubs gets up at 5:00 every day to go to Mass (he’s there early to set up) and if I went to bed at 9:00 when he does, I’d love to get up early to pray; my problem is that I’m up working waaaaaay past that, and so I sleep until I have to get the kids up! I keep striving toward more balance…
I also recently discovered some rosary podcasts (I think that’s actually the title), so I can listen to the prayers and pray along with my I-pod. Perhaps not focused “classroom of silence” kind of praying, but I think it helps!
It’s great to finally check out this blog!!! Looks great!!
I have certainly found that I am more organised when I include prayer in my day, even multiple times a day. I have been praying the Divine Office (Breviary) more lately and it is just so amazing how our Lord speaks through the psalms!! I can’t recommend it highly enough. I know it is hard but so worth the sacrifice. Apparently the psalms cover the whole gamut of human emotions……..what a gift. I’m certainly not doing it perfectly and some days I miss completely but I think it’s worth striving for.
My husband gets up at 6am and prays and I have been trying to join him. I can’t do it all the time, I seem to need more sleep than him. I love starting the day on the right foot though. I was getting up early to run but haven’t lost any weight after 3 months (!!!) so am giving up and trying to hand the whole thing over to God using prayer.
Thanks Kelly, I knew I’d love this blog!!
Hi Nicole, I’m glad you stopped by!
Do you have a link or book you recommend for the Divine Office (Breviary)??
Thanks,
Kelly
