Read the Bible in One Year with Me?

Bible in One Year

Want to take a challenge and read the Bible in one year with me?

Recently someone dear to me lost her Mom.  I know how devastating this is.  When we spoke she shared that she was really feeling drawn to read the Bible but had NO idea where or how to start.

I remember how that feels, and all of this used to be very foreign to me too!  (That’s why I wrote these FAQ’s for rookie Christians like I was.)

I didn’t grow up reading the Bible either.  It was only after our marriage crashed that I was drawn to go deeper with Jesus and then was ready and wanted to read it cover to cover.  Once I did, that changed everything for me.  I began to “get it” because I had the whole picture and understood more about the history of the Church.  Mostly I came to truly realize how much I was loved by Him and that He was my best friend, He was the one who would never leave me, even if my husband did.  (He wants you to know that too.)

Here’s how to start:

  • Get a bible.  This is the Bible I read and the one I sent my loved one because it explains what you’re reading and I really needed that!  (The only bummer for me was that there is no Catholic version of this type of Bible, so I have a Catholic Bible too.)
  • Print this Bible-in-One-Year plan that shows what to read every day.  It’ll just be a little bit of reading using 3 different parts of the Bible each day.  Find a time that works for you, grab a cup of coffee or tea and relax as you dig in.  Once you’re done, just check that day off.  Yes, it’s a commitment, but trust me:  it’s so worth it!
  • Just for later, print this bible timeline that can help you see when and in what order everything you’re reading about actually happened in history.  It’s a lot of info on one page, so don’t try to figure it all out now.  Just tuck it into your bible to peek at later.
  • p.s.  I’ll probably start next week sometime, I can’t wait to do another run all through.  I’m waiting to hear when she’s ready to start so we can do it together…

No stress though okay?!

One thing I love about this plan is that there are no dates on it.  This is huge because when life happens and you miss a day, then you’re not “behind”.  You just keep going when you sit down to read the next day.  This may be good or bad depending on you’re personality — if you need dates to keep you accountable and keep your daily reading going, then go ahead and find a different Bible-in-One-Year plan that better suits you.  But I know me and I know that I will miss a day now and then.  Hopefully not often, but it’s a given around here.  I don’t think Jesus cares though, instead I’ll bet he loves that we have the desire to go deeper into our life with Him, and if we miss a day, it’s okay.  🙂

Please comment here or email to tell me if you’re doing it too!

Kelly, I don’t know how many times I’ve tried and failed at a reading plan, but I guess now’s a good time to try again.

I want to try this!! And it looks doable:)
Thanks for including such a wonderful challenge for your friends to consider doing. It is always nice to do something with people and not alone.

I listen “through the Bible” with Dr J. Vernon McGee nightly. He explains verse by verse and this has helped me to understand and grow in my faith. You can hop on the “bible bus “ anytime.

So glad you’re doing it with us Sue, and for now, I’m not doing the daily Mass readings too, except maybe once in a while if I’m able to carve out extra time. I want to keep this doable so I won’t get overwhelmed. 🙂

      Love,

Hi I’m Kelly, a Catholic Christian, a wife, a homeschooling Mom, and a writer.  Matthew’s Gospel says, “Man does not live by bread alone” — and as passionate as I am about real food, nutrition, and natural healing, I believe that knowing the Lord is even more important!  So I started this blog in addition to my other one so I could hopefully help those who don’t “get” a lot of things about Christianity, which is just how I used to feel.

Over at my Kelly the Kitchen Kop blog I talk about how you keep your family healthy without going crazy in the process. 🙂
