The kids and I just got back from visiting the West Michigan Healing Field, a local memorial for those who died on September 11th, 2001. Each of the 3200 flags represent a life lost that day, including 21 who were Michigan residents. The flag tribute is on display for five days at the Cannonsburg Ski Area (near Grand Rapids).
Here are some pictures I wanted to share with you, and also my favorite quote of the day from a Grand Rapids fire chief:
“People have asked how I get men to go into a burning building and risk their lives to save others. My answer to them is, ‘How do I keep them out?'”
These were on the flags with information about each person who died.
I love this next one because I had just been talking to the kids about the quote, “There are no menial jobs, only menial attitudes.”
